This resource discusses the evolving landscape of greenhouse gas inventories and introduces the concept of “measurement-informed inventories” (MIIs). MIIs incorporate real measurement data to provide a more accurate picture of methane emissions. The seminar examines various methodologies for generating MIIs, including differences in how measurement data is reconciled with top-down data and the specific purpose of each inventory. A significant challenge addressed in the seminar is how to extrapolate measurement data to periods when direct measurements are unavailable. The discussion also explores the role of supplemental data, such as continuous monitoring and leak detection and repair (LDAR) datasets, in addressing this challenge.
